TenneT is working to connect renewable energy projects to the grid in the Netherlands and Germany. Over the next few years, the largest wind farm in the Netherlands will be constructed in the Noordoostpolder, an area of reclaimed land in the north-east of the country.
A total of 86 wind turbines will be erected, some in Lake Yssel (IJsselmeer) and some on the dyke along the shore. In future the turbines will be used to supply renewable energy to approx. 400,000 households. TenneT is connecting this large-scale renewable energy project to the high-voltage grid. For this purpose the electricity transmission operator is building a new 110 kV high-voltage substation at Westermeerdijk, right behind the dyke where the wind turbines are located. From Westermeerdijk, a 110 kV underground cable will run to the existing high-voltage substation at Emmeloord and onward to the substation at Ens, where the generated renewable electricity will be fed into the national 380 kV grid. The total cost of the project is estimated at more than 100 million euro. Work started last month and will take approx. two years to complete.
