After the first six months of this year resulted in increase of installed wind turbines in Germany, it is predicted that 2,400 MW of wind turbines will be added by the end of this year, instead of the previously estimated 2,200 MW.

The country installed only 45 MW of offshore wind turbines in the first half, due to grid connection delays, which is a setback on reaching the targeted 10 GW installed by 2020.

Bundesverband WindEnergie (BWE), a German wind-power lobby, expects 150 MW of offshore turbines installed this year.

According to Bloomberg, the country plans to build offshore wind farms covering an area six times bigger than New York City.

New wind projects in the southern states are providing more and more support to the German energy switch. BWE said that the additions in the first half have risen 26% to 1,004 MW and that the country’s accumulated installations rose to 30,016 MW.

Germany now has 25% of energy produced from renewables, aiming to reach at least 35% by 2020.
