JDR has announced that the company has been selected by WindMW GmbH as a partner for the Meerwind Sud/Ost Offshore Windfarm.

The project will use 80 wind turbines to generate 288 megawatts of electricity and will be located approximately 23km north of the island of Helgoland, with completion planned for 2013.

Andrew Norman , CEO of JDR said:

“This is JDR’s first wind energy project in Germany and we are very pleased to have been selected by WindMW as a partner for this very important project. I attended the UKTI Global Energy Summit this week at the British Business Embassy in London and had the opportunity to mention our participation in this project to David Cameron, Prime Minister and Edward Davey, MP ,who were very clear during the summit in their message of support for UK manufacturing in general and for energy related and export driven businesses in particular.

“ I also had the chance to thank Charles Hendry for the technology development funding we have received from DECC, which as a UK-based manufacturer is a significant contributor to our growing participation in the conception and development of wind farm projects around the world. Our investment of £30M in our manufacturing facilities in Hartlepool has created over 130 additional skilled jobs in the UK and we believe the opportunity to participate in the Meerwind offshore wind farm is just the beginning of a significant period of growth for JDR and the offshore wind industry.“

Jens Assheuer , CEO of WindMW said:

“We are pleased to partner with JDR on our exciting project. We are sure we will benefit from JDR’s extensive experience and expertise.”

JDR is a leading provider of specialist high performance subsea cables and umbilical systems for the offshore oil, gas and renewables market.

WindMW GmbH is responsible for the planning, construction and operation of the offshore wind farms Meerwind Süd and Meerwind Ost.
