The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West hosted a visit from ICE President Richard Coackley in Cornwall on 6 th and 7 th August. The President’s trip included a visit to the Wave Hub Project, an offshore electrical infrastructure system off the North Coast of Cornwall.
The aim of the facility is to support the development of wave energy technology, pushing forward innovation and research into marine renewable energy.
Richard Coackley said: “The Wave Hub puts down the foundation for successful development of wave power. It is essential that we have something available for companies to plug in and play to develop our Wave Energy offering and the Wave Hub is essential for this.”
Richard was welcomed by Helen Wilson , Business and Communications Manager for the Wave Hub .
Helen Wilson said: “We were delighted to welcome Richard to Hayle and to brief the ICE on Wave Hub and the important role it will play in the development, testing and ultimately the full commercialisation of wave energy devices. Cornwall and the South West has a growing reputation in marine renewables, so it was also a great chance for us to speak to Richard about how the sector is developing here.”
The President was accompanied by his wife Ella, ICE South West Regional Director Trish Johnson, ICE South West Membership Development Officer Mike Thorn, Regional Member of Council Richard Fish and President’s Apprentice Kieren Couch.
