A local firm has teamed up with a leading electrical technology provider to put the latest piece into place for E.ON’s £736m Humber Gateway Project.
Spencer Group has been engaged by CG Power to install the civil infrastructure for the new substation which will connect the power from the new Humber Gateway Offshore Wind farm into homes across the country. The teams are now starting on the foundations for the buildings which will house the new facilities.
Back in May, E.ON was on the lookout for companies who could help in one of the first wind farm projects on the Humber. Located five miles off the East Yorkshire coast, it is due to be completed in spring 2015.
Following attendance at the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event, organised by E.ON in Hull to attract local firms, Spencer has been selected to prepare the civil infrastructure for the onshore 275/132KV substation, which will feed the electricity generated by the turbines into the adjacent National Grid substation.
Spencer’s scope of works involve creating a network of foundations, buildings and offices for the electrical power, control and monitoring equipment being provided and installed by CG Power. Before work could begin in earnest, Spencer first carried out an earthworks project to move 6,500 cubic metres of earth.
They will now drive 649 piles 20 metres into the earth to provide a foundation for transformer bases and two new offices, which they will build and fit out for the project.
