People from business and academia met on September 16 in Da Nang for Green Economy conference, promoting the need to develop renewable energy projects in Vietnam.
The Vietnam news site quotes Huynh Anh Hoang, a representative from Da Nang’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, as saying that the central city has great potential for renewable energy sources, with a 90km coastline and over 2,000 hours of sun annually.
On the other hand, investors hesitate to enter renewable energy projects in Da Nang due to obstruction in terms of investment incentives and technology.
Du Van Toan from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s Institute of Sea and Islands said that the city has the ability to exploit its long coastline by building wave and tidal projects.
Vietnam aims to use 11% of renewable energy by 2050.
