Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has banned a Trump Organisation placed advert for giving off misleading impressions on the proposed offshore wind farm, which would be visible from US billionaire Donald Trump’s golf course in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen & North news site writes.
The controversial advert entitled “Welcome to Scotland!” was placed in regional newspaper and it featured a photograph of broken and rusty wind turbines. In addition, it said that the “Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond wants to build 8750 of these monstrosities” , a figure way off the forecasted number of turbines to be erected at the site.
Numerous developers raised their voice against the advert including Scottish Renewables, arguing that the photograph in question depicts a decommissioned wind farm in Hawaii.
“The ad must not appear again in its current form. We told Trump and Cats to ensure that the pictures they used in future ads reflected the types of turbines likely to be used in Scotland, and not to exaggerate the number of turbines likely to be installed or the possible consequences of the Scottish Government’s plans to use wind turbines,” the ASA stated inter alia in its decision.
