Modus Seabed Intervention has endorsed the vision set out by the new norstec alliance to maximise the potential for offshore wind developments in the North Sea.
The Darlington-based company became one of the first supply chain companies to join the network of 20 international businesses when the alliance was unveiled by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, earlier this year at The Clean Energy Ministerial Conference.
Since then, the network has been collaborating on a strategy to help exploit the abundant offshore renewable energy resources in the North Sea, which was launched by Ed Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change on 4 October.
Modus, which delivers subsea trenching, survey, inspection and construction support services, is already at the heart of the offshore renewables supply chain and is keen to highlight the invaluable role technology-led businesses play in delivering and maintaining sustainable energy resources from northern European waters.
Its state-of-the-art fleet of trenching and Work-Class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) spreads and equipment have been deployed on a range of offshore renewable projects, most recently EDF Energy Renewables’ Teesside Wind Farm in the North Sea.
The subsea sector will be integral to the development of the industry as new wind farms are established and maintained. It is predicted, for example, that, by 2022, more than 8000km of high voltage offshore transmission lines could be laid across the North Sea region.
