Today Benj Sykes, representing DONG Energy’s Wind business, will outline the vision of the new norstec group that was launched by the Prime Minster David Cameron.

As a market leader in offshore wind and with all of our offshore wind farms based in the North West European region, DONG Energy is already signed up to the group.

Speaking alongside Secretary of State Edward Davey at the kick-off meeting at the Tate modern this afternoon, Benj will say:

“Today, north west Europe is the global leader in offshore wind with investments of over 6 billion euros expected over the next year. DONG Energy is at the forefront of this investment and by 2014 we will have doubled our wind capacity from what it was in 2011 to over 2 gigawatts of installed projects. We are happy to be a part of the norstec network as we believe the maximum potential can be achieved through working in partnerships. ”

The North Sea region has a potential to develop 40GW of offshore wind capacity by 2020 and up to 125 GW of offshore wind and marine renewables by 2030 according to the norstec vision.

Sykes will add: “Of course we need to be backed by strong government support which is why norstec has the potential to pull the right levers. DONG Energy’s wind farms are already creating jobs, supply chain opportunities and attracting financial investors. If norstec gets this right, we’re not only maximising on a clean and secure, indigenous energy supply but also the economic benefits, the investment opportunities, and the potential growth that these developments will bring.”
