Offshore Marine Academy trainee has been awarded JTL Apprentice of the Year.

James Grant joined Offshore Marine Academy in September 2010 having already started his studies towards an apprenticeship in Electro Technical Science and was able to continue and subsequently complete the programme during his time with OMA. Support to enable him to achieve this not only came from OMA but also OMM as James was actively involved in project work offshore and received help and guidance from many within the project team.

James was nominated for the JTL South West Apprentice of the year not only because of his academic achievement but also in recognition of his other interests including horse riding and competitive sailing. In addition James is also active in charity work and fund raising events. The awards ceremony was held at Leigh Court in Bristol on 9th October and James was awarded the trophy for JTL South West Apprentice of the Year.

David Martin, Director of the Offshore Marine Academy said of James “From day one with Offshore Marine Academy James always demonstrated a willingness to learn and take on new challenges. His positive attitude has been fundamental to his achievements and he fully deserves this recognition of his achievements.”

Since leaving OMA he has been working for VSMC as a cable engine driver in the North Sea and he continues to enjoy the offshore lifestyle.

Both James and OMA will be present at the final national award ceremony which will be held at the Tower of London in February and it is hoped James will repeat his regional success and take the national award.
