If the UK’s renewable energy continues to grow in current pace, it will surpass nuclear power by 2018, a new research study released by RenewableUK shows.

Based on the findings by 2015 one out of 10 UK households will be powered by renewables. Wind energy input rose by a quarter in the last two years and investments in offshore wind grew by about 60%. What is more, offshore wind projects are estimated to have brought to the UK economy a minimum of £150m and a maximum of £600m.

The newly appointed energy minister John Hayes , who voiced his opposition to wind farms in the past, is supporting their construction in suitable areas. “It’s about having the support of local people – that is the key thing,” he told the Guardian.

Nevertheless, the energy bill is yet to be discussed, probably later in November. Turbine manufacturers are still waiting for assurance from the Government to invest in the UK’s wind industry by building their factories there.
