RWE npower renewables have today announced that early next year they will be holding a consultation on the electrical system onshore site options for the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm. The electrical system will connect the offshore wind turbines to the national grid allowing the renewable energy generated by the wind farm to power homes and businesses.

Project Manager for Triton Knoll, Jacob Hain said: “Since the beginning of this year, we have been undertaking intensive work exploring all of the options that were available to us. We are now very pleased to announce our plans to undertake a consultation early next year on a short list of sites. These have the potential to be suitable locations for Triton Knoll’s electrical infrastructure and we look forward to sharing them.”

The consultation will be with public bodies, local communities and other interested parties and the company aims to find out their views on:

• A shortlist of potential locations for the substation around Bicker Fen, Boston • A shortlist of potential locations for the intermediate electrical infrastructure in East Lindsey.

At the same time as the consultations, RWE npower renewables plans to announce:

• The type of electrical technology which will be used • The potential options for ‘cable corridors’. • The location where the offshore cables will come to shore and the route they will take from the offshore wind farm

A newsletter will be published early in 2013 giving details of how people can participate in the consultation, including the dates and venues for public information days.
