According to the latest report by the four transmission system operators, Germany should have 111 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2017, reports Reuters.

EnBW, Tennet, Amprion and 50Hertz predict that 47GW will come from wind energy, both onshore and offshore, 55GW from solar power and the rest will come from hydro power, biomass and geothermal to contribute to the total capacity of 111GW.

This follows the government’s decision to exit the nuclear power after the Fukushima disaster in 2011.

Since most of the produced power will receive subsidies, taxpayers are expected to pay EUR 13.3 billion directly to the renewables operators.
