Danish and UK energy ministers discussed the development of a subsea cable between the countries as a project of major importance for renewable energy, Subsea UK reports.

Denmark is considering the increase of links to foreign electricity markets as it prepares for the growing role of alternative solar and wind sources, according to Bloomberg.

This link would facilitate the transfer of energy from large offshore wind projects along the UK cost and Jutland in Denmark.

Isobel Rowley said that the National Grid Plc plans to complete a study for the cable by year end, with the determination of landing points, capacity and a possible commissioning timetable still to be decided, Bloomberg informs.

The estimated value of the 700MW subsea link is around DKr 8bn (USD 1.4bn).

Mr. Ulrich Bang, director of EU affairs at the Danish Energy Association, hopes that the cable will be in place before 2020.
