UK: Tidal Transit Wins Another Contract and Makes EDP’s Future 50 List

For the second year running, North Norfolk’s Tidal Transit Limited, which provides state-of-the-art, purpose-designed crew transfer vessels for use by workers on the North Sea’s offshore wind farms, has made the Eastern Daily Press’s Future 50 List. Future 50 is a list of companies that, in the opinion of the judges are the ones to watch.

Tidal Transit’s Directors, Adam Wright and Leo Hambro, have clearly demonstrated the qualities needed to succeed – belief in the viability of their far-reaching decisions and a willingness to take a calculated risk. These qualities have resulted in Tidal Transit’s rapid growth, following the vessels’ impact on the growing offshore wind energy sector.

Tidal Transit’s existing vessels, the Ginny Louise and Eden Rose, have been in permanent use on the Greater Gabbard and Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farms since their arrival in the UK. Although the Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm is now complete, its operator, Scira Offshore Energy, has just awarded a new, minimum 6-month, contract to charter Eden Rose. This contract was awarded because the vessel is able to remain at sea for up to four days and can comfortably accommodate the offshore wind turbine technicians who need to be on site on a daily basis for undertaking routine maintenance.

Einar Strømsvåg from Scira Offshore Energy comments: “We believe that Eden Rose’s capabilities will play an important role in the daily maintenance procedures on the Sheringham Shoal turbines during the winter months.”

Tidal Transit’s growth has allowed it to appoint three new skippers and three office-based support staff in the past year, including an apprentice. It has also made a further major investment, placing an order for another boat, the Tia Elizabeth, which will be the third of Tidal Transit’s planned ten-vessel fleet.

“We are all delighted on two counts,” Leo says. “The new contract with Scira will enable Tidal Transit to demonstrate the complete spectrum of Eden Rose’s capabilities, and is the final ‘proof of concept’ of what we have created since the first of our new generation of personnel transfer vessels came into service earlier this year. And of course, to get onto the EDP’s Future 50 list for the second time is a real accolade.”
