Gov. Martin O’Malley will again try to introduce a similar bill on ensuring funding for an offshore wind farm which failed twice to make it out of the General Assembly, Gazette Net reports.
According to the bill, the project that could cost USD 1 billion would not increase residents’ bill by more than USD 2 a month. Until the completion of the project, ratepayers wouldn’t be charged.
“I had worked with the governor’s people on how to get that extra vote in my committee, and I think he’s optimistic that he has the votes to pass the bill,” said Sen. Thomas McLain Middleton of Waldorf.
The reason why the previous attempts of passing the law failed, was the fact that many senators did not believe the $2 potential increase on Maryland residents’ utility bills a month was realistic.
