Steel fabricator Steel Engineering, headquartered in the west of Scotland, has clasped a deal from Korean group Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to produce offshore jackets and ensure steelwork for a wind turbine generator system under development at the Energy Park at Methil, Fife, the Scotsman informs.

In addition, the deal purports provision of post-delivery on-site work followed by transition steelwork for a wind turbine generator system.

The contract will herald full steam ahead for new employment, since £100m Samsung 7 megawatt offshore wind turbine project is projected to open 500 jobs in Fife.

The fact that Samsung has recognized Steel Engineering as a valuable partner in this challenging endeavor represents a major step for the company, having in mind harsh competition in this industry sector on the rise.

“Securing the contract is testament to our competitive pricing schedules and our on-going investment and commitment to the renewable energy sector, which has included the establishment of a renewable energy training academy to create a skilled workforce for the sector.

“A major contract like this will help fuel our ambitious expansion plans and is likely to boost future job creation in Renfrew and also in Fife,” the Scotsman cited Peter Breslin, managing director of Steel , as saying.

Korean giant SHI announced in January that it was planning to base its first European offshore wind project in Fife.

The Energy Park is located 60 nautical miles from the three proposed offshore wind developments. Within these sites up to 4,765MW of capacity is expected to be installed.
