In recognition of its work to bring forward two tidal farms in UK waters, Siemens’ Marine Current Turbines (MCT) won the Device Developer Business Case Award at last week’s International Tidal Energy Summit.

The award, judged by an independent panel, acknowledged MCT’s “ solid and applicable business case” for its proposed projects at Kyle Rhea in Scotland and the Skerries tidal array off Anglesey, north Wales.

MCT is focussed on the supply of the technology to projects as well as coordinating maintenance during operation. Project-specific companies have been established for each of the sites to act as the developer with the intention being that investors in the SPV companies will take the projects forward.
