This weekend, the offshore substation for Borkum Riffgrund 1 Offshore Wind Farm arrived at Bladt Industries’ facilities in Aalborg, Denmark.
Currently, the substation is merely an empty steel structure that has been prefabricated by a subcontractor in Poland, but during the next months the substation will be fitted with electrical equipment and various other types of equipment such as doors, helipad, crane and piping.
Construction of Borkum Riffgrund 1 is expected to start in 2013, and the farm will supply power from 2014. In addition, DONG Energy is also working on further developing a neighbouring project, Borkum Riffgrund 2, the development of which has yet to be finalised.
