Next generation offshore wind farm service vessel will be up for grabs soon as Canadian company ExtremeOcean Innovation Inc. in cooperation with Oceanic Consulting Corporation pushes for commercialization of their TranSPAR craft design.

The team announced their new design at the International WorkBoat Show,Work Boat news portal writes.

The TranSPAR Craft, completely different from any other vessel of its type, has been developed as an efficient short-range low-motion vessel capable of safely transiting and transferring crew, equipment and supplies in wave heights up to 3m. It is capable of achieving this goal through the use of its minimized waterplane area, maximized air gap, and large vertical damping.

The said characteristics are aimed at reducing the vessel’s motion, particularly in heave, pitch and roll.

Oceanic assisted ExtremeOcean Innovation to refine the design concept and estimate its performance, paying greatest attention to the operability and maneuverability features.

The innovative design of the vessel is expected to increase access to offshore wind turbines by at least 30% over existing vessels on the market. What is more, safe transfers at 3 meters, will pave the way for increasing access time to 310 days from the present 200 days per annum, Marine Log explains.

TranSPAR Craft Concept has been selected by Carbon Trust as a winner of the Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) Access Competition in 2010.

The final touches on TranSPAR Craft should be completed by mid- to late 2014, when a full-scale version of the TranSPAR craft will be available.
