The development of the Argyll Array offshore wind farm will be paused for a year, according to an update by ScottishPower Renewables (SPR), published on the website of the campaigning group No Tiree Array. In its update on the project, SPR says the following:

ScottishPower Renewables has put the development of the Argyll array windfarm project on hold for 12 months.

During this period the company will work with others to study the results of initial detailed environmental studies of the site. The pause in the project programme will also enable the company to monitor the offshore wind industry’s progress in relation to turbine, foundation and support vessel technology, with a view to fully developing technical solutions that are able to deal with the physical conditions at the windfarm site.

All development work on the project will therefore stop at the end of 2012. The position will be reviewed at the end of 2013. The commitments already made in respect of the RESET Fund will, however, continue to be fulfilled in 2013.
