Suzlon Group has announced that the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of its wholly-owned subsidiary, REpower Systems SE, Matthias Schubert, is to retire on 31st March 2013.

Mr Schubert has served in this role for 12 years since the founding of the company. He has shaped REpower’s product portfolio in the onshore and offshore sector and has set the course for innovative products, such as the REpower MM and 3.XM series as well as the REpower 5M and 6M offshore turbines. Until a successor to head REpower’s technology function has been identified the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Andreas Nauen, will oversee this portfolio.

Tulsi Tanti, chairman of Suzlon Group and REpower’s supervisory board, said: “In the wind turbine manufacturing business, Matthias Schubert is one of the giants – he is one of the most highly respected engineers and innovators of his time. It has been a genuine privilege and pleasure for me to have worked so closely with Matthias over the years. His contribution to REpower specifically – and the Group more broadly – is significant. We thank him for his service to us and wish him happiness and prosperity when he retires from REpower in the spring”.

Matthias Schubert said: “I have enjoyed my time here at REpower very much. I am extremely grateful for the exciting times I have lived through with REpower on its journey from a North-German niche player to a Global champion. Although I am sad to be leaving, I pay tribute to all those who have worked with me at REpower and thank them for their hard work and loyalty. It was always my strongest driver to work in this spirit of commitment, trust, honesty and pride that we have developed as a culture here at REpower. I leave a strong team to carry on this important work. I would also like to take this opportunity to say what a pleasure it has been working with Tulsi Tanti and his senior team as well as Andreas Nauen”.

Andreas Nauen commented: “It has been a great experience to work so closely with Matthias Schubert over the past three years and I know we will miss him very much”.
