Friesland Kabel GmbH, the specialist for marine and offshore connections in Norderstedt near Hamburg, takes over the complete delivery, including logistics for the wiring of the new offshore converter platform “SylWin Alpha”, which for the moment is manufactured by Nordic Yards in Warnemünde.

Several hundred kilometers of cable must be installed for safe operation of the plant.

SylWin alpha is built around 70 kilometers west of Sylt and is up to 864 MW of electricity from offshore wind farms and DanTysk Butendiek of AC and DC power and convert forward to the German mainland. The substation has huge dimensions. With a total height of about 80 meters (including 40 meters above the water), a width of 56 meters and a length of 82 meters it is the largest platform of its kind

Klaus Moorlampen, owner and managing director of Friesland cable. “We are very proud that we can support the platforms BorWin, NSO and HelWin and that we are allowed to deliver our cables to the fourth and largest platform”. Customer of Nordic Yards is Siemens Energy, the end user is the power operator TenneT. ” Our cables are able to resist harshest environmental conditions. Therefore we are now listed at TenneT as a solid supplier, “ explains Mr. Moorlampen.

Moreover, the new development of a hybrid cable for the camera monitoring comes on the platform in use. All cables are halogen-free, flame-retardant, low smoke and fire resistant for special applications, highly flexible and have the necessity for marine applications DNV and GL approvals and IEC standards. SylWin Alpha will be ready approximately in spring 2014.
