With southern New England poised to lead the nation in developing offshore wind power, Metcalf Institute will hold a public lecture on Thursday, March 14, at 3:30 p.m. by Philip Warburg, author of Harvest the Wind: America’s Journey to Jobs, Energy Independence, and Climate Stability.

Warburg, former president of the Conservation Law Foundation, will describe his own journey to witness wind power’s dramatic ascent across the American heartland. From the Kansas prairie and the cornfields of Iowa to the eastern slopes of the Rockies, he will describe the ways in which wind farms have begun to transform America’s energy economy. While introducing the farmers, factory workers, and high-tech entrepreneurs who are moving wind technology forward, he will also delve into some of the environmental challenges we face as wind power scales up to supply a third or more of America’s electricity.

The lecture, which will take place at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography’s Narragansett Bay Campus in the Coastal Institute Auditorium, is free and open to the public.

Peter B. Lord Seminar on the Environment

Regional journalists are invited to dive more deeply into how southern New England is approaching renewable energy options at the next Peter B. Lord Seminar on the Environment to be held Friday, March 15, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography. Click here to register for the workshop or visit www.metcalfinstitute.com/training/pbls. There is no registration fee, but please note that this seminar is only open to members of the news media.

The Peter B. Lord Seminars were established by Metcalf Institute in 2012 with generous support from The Providence Journal Charitable Foundation, The Rhode Island Foundation and the Henry and Jan Rines Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation.
