Tidal Transit Limited has just achieved ISO 14001, the internationally recognised Environmental Management Standard for business.

The certification defines controls for any activity that has an effect on the environment, including the use of natural resources, handling and treating of waste and energy consumption.

Tidal Transit is a young company, growing in response to the development of offshore wind farms, particularly those in the southern North Sea off the coast of East Anglia. It is developing a fleet of personnel transport vessels that can comfortably accommodate up to 12 passengers – more usually technicians and mechanics that are working on the construction or maintenance of the wind farms.

“The exercise has been headed by Kerry King, our Quality Health and Safety Executive,” says Leo Hambro, Tidal Transit’s Commercial Director . “She has worked hard to achieve the standards required by ISO 14001 because we all feel that it’s an extremely worthwhile certification. As a company heavily involved with the providers of ‘green’ energy, it naturally follows that we show that we are committed to environmental issues and are prepared to work towards improving the environment in this way.”

Explaining the process, he goes on to say: “QMS, the assessing body, reviewed all our documentation, made recommendations and supplied us with a systematic way of discovering and controlling the effects the company has on the environment. Once we have implemented all its systems, it will help to save costs through improved efficiency and productivity. It has been a very worthwhile exercise.”
