UK: Dong to Extend Walney OWF

Danish giant, Dong Energy, has confirmed that they are planning to extend the Walney wind farm located off Barrow, reports BBC. Danish giant, Dong Energy, has confirmed that they are planning to extend the Walney wind farm located off Barrow, reports BBC.

The wind farm currently consists of 102 Siemens’ 3.6MW turbines, totaling to 367.2 MW of power.

The application for additional 120 turbines is expected to be submitted by May 2013.

If approved, the wind farm will provide power for 500,000 more homes and become the world’s largest offshore wind farm.

Walney wind farm is located 14 kilometers off Barrow coast, and covers 73 km².
