‘Oleg Strashnov’ Prepares for TP Installation at Meerwind Süd/Ost, Germany

One of the world’s largest installation vessels, Oleg Strashnov, is in Cuxhaven since Tuesday, waiting to load components for a wind farm northwest of Helgoland. One of the world’s largest installation vessels, Oleg Strashnov, is in Cuxhaven since Tuesday, waiting to load components for a wind farm northwest of Helgoland.

A total of six transition pieces (TPs) will be loaded onto the vessel, after which they will be installed at the Meerwind Süd/Ost offshore wind farm.

The HWG members, Ambau (specialist for steel towers and steel foundations) and Cuxport (operator of the modern deep-water terminal in Cuxhaven) started a new chapter of cooperation this week by being a part of the project “Meerwind”.

Ambau transported the transition pieces from the manufacturing site to Cuxport Terminal using a road, newly widened specifically for this type of heavy transport.

From the Cuxport Terminal, these components will be lifted by crane onto the ‘Oleg Strashnov’ vessel.

The special cargo will then be transported from Cuxhaven to the construction site of the Meerwind Süd/Ost offshore wind farm. There, the transition pieces will be attached and fitted on the already installed monopiles (pile foundations).

The project will use 80 wind turbines to generate 288 megawatts of electricity and will be located approximately 23km north of the island of Helgoland.
