De-risking offshore renewable energy projects is vital for delivering them safely, on time and on budget. Now project developers and engineers and turbine cable installation contractors working in and around Hamburg and Paris can spend a day with Fugro specialists to gain invaluable understanding of the challenges of acquisition and interpretation of geological, geophysical, geotechnical, environmental and geospatial data, which will help them take crucial de-risking steps.

Fugro is continuing to run its popular free one-day technical course designed to demystify geotechnical and geo-environmental data for renewables experts. The next courses in the series take place on Tuesday 9 April in Hamburg, and Tuesday 14 May in Paris.

“Our course has the rather intimidating title ‘An Introduction to the Challenges of Acquisition and Interpretation of Geological, Geotechnical and Geospatial Data for the Offshore Renewable Industry’, but it could just as well be called ‘Demystifying all things Geo’ as that is exactly what it is designed to do,” says Tony Hodgson, Global Business Development Manager for Fugro Renewable Services .

The day long course draws on nearly fifty years of experience in the oil and gas industry, and those taking part will be provided with an introduction to the planning and implementation of a range of studies and surveys to de-risk projects as far as design, installation and performance of foundations and cables are concerned.

More than one hundred and twenty five people have attended the course in the past, with complimentary feedback including “I would particularly recommend [the course] to colleagues who would like a high level view of engineering on a wind farm”; “Good overview of geotechnical challenges involved and some methods to deal with these”; and “Very relevant to foundation design for offshore renewables”.

“We are delighted by these reactions; knowledge is indeed power, and our delegates will leave with a step-by-step guide to the industry’s best practice in researching, collecting, storing and maximising the use of the data relating to the seabed, sub-seabed and geo-environment,” explains Tony Hodgson . “What our delegates learn in this one day course will guide them towards optimised and cost-effective design solutions.”
