Prior to the eighth National Maritime Conference, which was held in Kiel, the Association of Employers Nordmetall requested from the German Federal Government to commit to offshore wind power, “You cannot switch off the nuclear power after an incident at the other end of the world, “ said Nordmetall General Manager Thomas Klischan.
It is unfortunate that the policy makers have launched the debate on the energy transition, they themselves initiated, in the wake of the federal election campaign: “Political campaigns should not affect energy policy which is planned for the long term,” said Klischan .
“Germany has a huge opportunity to create tens of thousands of jobs with the renewable energies. Moreover, mechanical and electrical engineering and shipbuilding companies have already made huge investments and developed cutting-edge technology.”
“Policy discussions about the offshore wind power at this point are jeopardizing jobs and entire companies,” warns Klischan .
The energy transition needs a master plan for the development in the North and Baltic Seas,followed by the designing of the land connections and new power lines as well as the financing of the infrastructure, now, not after the election in September, said Nordmetall.
