The Oyster wave energy device, developed by Aquamarine Power, has returned to the right track having met various development challenges on the way and “will get there” after achieving an uninterrupted 24 hours of electricity generation, 18 months after installation in the Pentland Firth, the Herald Scotland reports.

Installed at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, the Oyster 800 has reassured its developers that they are on the right path, 18 months after installation and despite a setback caused by a few component and connection failures.

The company also planned to deploy its third generation wave energy device, the Oyster 801, this summer. However, this action has been rescheduled to be realized sometime before 2015.
