The manufacturing work on a wind turbine service vessel for the Danish company DBB Jack-Up Services started on April 22 at Nordic Yards with the first steel cutting.

The wind turbine service jack-up vessel is used for the maintenance of offshore wind turbines. With its novel jack-up system, it can be set up at sea in water depths of up to 45 meters on its four jack-up legs. Thus, it has stable positioning to carry out the maintenance work.

With an onboard crane, the 80 meter-long and 32 meter-wide vessel can replace the heaviest wind turbine components on a height of up to 100 meters under the most demanding weather conditions.

DBB Jack-Up Services, a service company for the offshore wind industry with a focus on the maintenance of the wind turbines, ordered the ship from Nordic Yards in 2012.

“We look forward to further cooperation with Nordic Yards,” said Thorsten Jalk, CEO of DBB Jack-Up Services . He continued: “We know that we have the best partner on board for this project with Nordic.”

“With this high-tech ship, we are not only building our offshore wind business further out, we are also proving our skills and experience in building highly specialized ships,” says Andreas Amelang, Senior Vice President of Sales & Project Design .

The keel laying of hull number 212 is scheduled for fall 2013, and delivery is planned for the second half of 2014.
