Forewind invites Teesside residents and members of the public interested to learn more about the Dogger Bank Teesside offshore wind development to a series of one-to-one discussions (Friday 17 and Saturday 18, May).
Dogger Bank Teesside will comprise four offshore wind farms, each with a maximum installed capacity of 1.2 gigwatts (GW) and located more than 160 kilometres from the coast. Together they could generate around 16 Terawatt hours per annum, or more than all the electricity needed by homes and industry in the North East.
The development’s export cables are expected to connect to the national grid in Teesside, just south of the Tees Estuary.
The one-to-one sessions will be at venues near the proposed landfall between Redcar and Marske, along the onshore cable route and close to the planned converter station locations by Lazenby.
Forewind Stakeholder Manager Nikki Young said that the sessions will enable local people to ask any questions they may have about the development, including work done to select the proposed landfall, cable and converter stations sites as well as the environmental impact assessment.
“We would like to invite anyone interested in meeting us, to register their interest by Friday 10 May,” she said. “Half hour slots will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and while sessions may also be booked at the venue on the day, availability cannot be guaranteed.”
Since Forewind’s first consultation in spring 2012, there have been a number updates to the wind farm proposals. Significant progress has been made on the landscape and visual assessment of the proposed converter stations, and surveys have been undertaken to gather noise data and geophysical information, and to take borehole samples.
“These one-to-ones will give people a chance to find out the latest information on the project in advance of the final consultation phase which is due later this year,” she added. “Those not able make one of these discussions but with specific questions can contact us directly at anytime.”
