When the Danish Energy Agency gave DONG Energy a concession to construct Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, one of the conditions were for DONG Energy to undergo a third-party certification of the entire construction project to demonstrate that the offshore wind farm is designed and constructed according to applicable standards and is expected to last for the planned lifetime.
The total project certification became effective at the beginning of the year after an intensive review of the project basis. The certification has been completed in cooperation with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and includes several parts, including an assessment of design conditions (soil conditions, waves, wind, etc), review of foundation design, type approval of the wind turbine and approval of manufacture and installation, etc.
One of the most comprehensive tasks has been the approval of the design conditions for the foundation as the foundations in Anholt Offshore Wind Farm differ from the foundations used in the North Sea as they have to be dimensioned for ice and ice pack (ice loads). In addition, the complicated and varying seabed conditions in the area round Anholt make heavy demands on geophysics and geotechnics. For that purpose, DONG Energy’s specialists have created a detailed geological model of the area.
