Cammell Laird shipyard is waiting to win profitable wind farm construction contracts this autumn, which would triple its workforce and raise turnover to half a billion pounds a year, Liverpool Daily Post writes.
Contracts for the UK Round 3 wind farms will be announced by the end of this year and total investment in these projects will amount to GBP 16 billion.
“It’s largely about what it will mean in terms of jobs and turnover. Even if we get just 10% of the business it would treble our employees with another 2,000 people. We would very quickly become a half a billion pound turnover business, when added to our existing business,” the company’s CEO, John Syvret , is quoted as saying.
He added that the company also wants to prove to energy companies that it is not just a shipyard, but that it has a great and skilled team which makes Cammell Laird an ambitious provider of engineering services.
“What is the point bringing windfarm components 2,000 miles by sea from Germany and the continent when we can make them here? We have a logistical advantage,” Liverpool Daily Post quotes Mr. Syvret .
