Scottish Renewables welcomes the Scottish Government go-ahead for a cutting edge offshore demonstration wind turbine at the Fife Energy Park in Methil.
Ms Lindsay Leask, Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables said:
“Today’s announcement further cements Scotland’s leading position in the development of next generation offshore wind technologies. The European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre at Aberdeen Bay and the progress of Mitsubishi’s 7MW demonstrator project at Hunterston put Scotland truly at the cutting edge of offshore wind development.
“This year will see the deployment of Europe’s first 7MW turbines on the east and west coasts of Scotland.
“This is of course also a further step forward towards offshore turbine manufacturing with Samsung announcing in January 2012 its ambitions for a £100 million investment at Fife Energy Park, a project which could create more than 500 jobs and provide a real boost to the local economy.”
