Pacific Orca, the world’s largest wind turbine installation vessel, has arrived to the Belfast Harbour, where DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables have built a terminal for the assembly of offshore wind turbines, The Irish News reports.
This is another step forward for Belfast Harbour, which dived into the offshore wind market and in that way secured the city of Belfast’s future regarding jobs and investments.
Belfast Harbour handed over its new GBP 50 million worth offshore wind terminal to DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables in February . The first job for this new terminal will be GBP 1.6 billion offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea ‒ the West of Duddon Sands.
Pacific Orca can install offshore wind foundations and Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) in ocean depths of up to 60 metres, and her special design enables the installation of the ultra-large WTGs of 10 MW or more that are currently being developed to meet the future needs of the industry.
