BARD Engineering from Emden, a company specialized in planning, implementation and operation of offshore wind farms, has implemented a Dell Compellent Storage System with a total capacity of 120 TB.

In this way, the company automatically and continuously collects daily measurements from wind farms and archives them reliably and dynamically throughout the life cycle of wind farms.

BARD Engineering’s wind turbines are specifically designed for the use on the high seas and therefore must also withstand extreme conditions. In the control room in Emden, the company monitors the current data for each wind turbine and also controls the entire wind farm from there.

Rapid data growth over the recent years prevented the company from coping with the traditional data collection method, urging for introduction of an automated data acquisition system. BARD Engineering therefore decided to implement a storage solution from Dell with a virtualized, scalable disk pool. The advantage: a flexible expandable architecture of the Dell Compellent Storage System, which enables it to be expanded without restrictions so that it can easily adapt to the company’s growth as well as to new technologies.
