A large majority of the Dutch support wind energy and a quarter also say there should be investments in the construction of new wind turbines, according to a survey carried out by a research firm Ipsos on behalf of Eneco.
The survey shows that nearly 80 percent of the Dutch people support wind energy. About 50 percent say that they support wind energy because renewable energy is important for the country. Furthermore, 16 percent find that wind turbines fit in the Dutch climate, which abounds in strong winds and 9 percent say that they see a historical connection between wind turbines and the Netherlands.
The Central Planning Bureau recently wrote that the Netherlands must stop the construction of new wind turbines in the next 5 years. There is an overcapacity in the energy market and each new wind turbine reinforces this.
The Ipsos’ survey also shows that 40 percent of the Dutch find that homeowners with solar panels should receive cheaper mortgage. The same percentage of people find homes with solar panels more attractive to live in.
