UK metocean survey contractor Partrac Ltd announces the successful deployment and recovery of the 50th ADCP at tidal energy sites in the UK and Europe.

UK metocean survey contractor Partrac has been deploying ADCPs in support of the tidal and wave energy sector since 2008. The recent recovery of one unit from the notorious Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth in the UK marks the 50th successful deployment and recovery completed by Partrac at tidal energy sites. This is a remarkable achievement given the complexities and challenges of these environments, and one which is unsurpassed within the industry.

This industry milestone has been achieved thanks to a dedicated marine team who have focused on every detail of acquiring ADCP data in these complex and dynamic regions. The team has worked tirelessly through every aspect of these projects, developing the equipment and methodology required that has led to this remarkable success. This has included designing novel equipment and deployment methodologies, working with experienced vessel teams, and developing the highest HSE standards to identify and manage the many risks to personnel and equipment.

Operations Director Peter Wilson said, “This achievement has not come easily and it highlights the tireless commitment of our marine team, who have put in thousands of hours over the years to ensure safe and successful ADCP deployments time and again. Our team have been constant in their invention, initiative and attention to detail, and it is the result of such dedication that has brought us to this milestone and leads to the continual improvement of our survey operations. Achieving our 50th successful ADCP deployment and recovery at tidal energy sites – in our 10th year of trading – is remarkable given the incredibly challenging nature of the environment in which we work. It is a firm testament to the team’s ability and commitment to high quality data acquisition, which has directly helped our clients to develop their projects with confidence and without unnecessary delays.”

Partrac also wish to notify of the sad loss of one of the principal members of their marine team in March of this year. On this Peter commented, “It is with huge sadness that we announce that our Survey Technician Danny Maddox was killed in an avalanche in Glencoe in March of this year. Danny brought an incredibly diverse skill set to our company and contributed enormously to our success, not only in tidal races but across our entire survey spectrum. Danny worked hard in the warehouse and on survey to ensure that each and every deployment was undertaken to the highest standards and to the best of our combined abilities. And despite tough working conditions and long days, he always had a smile on his face and time for his colleagues. He would have been incredibly proud in reaching this, Partrac’s 50th successful ADCP deployment in a tidal race.”
