Taoiseach Enda Kenny is to attend a groundbreaking ceremony today in Cark harbour for the international centre for marine research, reports the Irish Times.

Beaufort laboratory, which costs around €15 million, will house a national ocean energy test facility.

Dr Tony Lewis of the University College Cork will manage this centre, which could have the greatest concentration of researchers of wave and tidal energy worldwide.

The project will generate up to 200 jobs during the construction, with around 60 permanent jobs after it is completed next July.
