From 24 to 26 July 2013, DCNS and Nass&Wind will present their Winflo floating wind turbine development programme at the 8th Renewable Energy 2013 exhibition in Tokyo, Japan.
A study of the marine renewable energy sector highlights the many common issues shared between Japan and France. Both countries have very long coastlines offering significant marine energy resources. Furthermore, the French and Japanese governments have identified the need to move towards more environmentally-friendly energy solutions allowing independence from fossil fuels.
DCNS, world leader in naval defence and innovative player in energy, and Nass&Wind, specialist of renewable energy, will present the Winflo floating wind turbine, a solution of the future for the new energy mix. The design of the first demonstrator was finalised this year. Its construction will now be started and it will be launched in 2014. It will be the first floating wind- turbine demonstrator to be tested in French waters.
These advances confirm the maturity of Winflo technology and place this floating wind-turbine programme at the forefront in France.
Because of their offshore positioning, floating wind turbines have numerous advantages: access to stronger and more consistent winds, reduced visual impact, better social acceptability and simpler and faster deployment. Furthermore, the floating wind-turbine market is three times larger than that for offshore wind turbines.
