Seajacks installation vessels Leviathan and Zaratan departed from the port of Esbjerg during the 16th and 17th July 2013, to begin installing the first batch of 80 Siemens 3.6MW offshore turbines at Meerwind Offshore Wind Park.

The first turbine was successfully erected by the team on-board Leviathan the very next day and all seven turbines from the first installation cycle will have been successfully installed by the end of this week (26thJuly). This important milestone is built on a highly productive winter of foundation installation by these two highly versatile offshore wind vessels.

Starting work in September, Zaratan installed the last of 80 monopiles on the 21st April then underwent a rapid 14 day demob and remobilisation to make the vessel ready for turbine installation. While Leviathan, starting work in October, completed all transition pieces on the 29th June and underwent a 7 day mob to be ready for installation of turbines. When the final turbine has been installed at Meerwind, Seajacks vessels will have installed over 300 Siemens 3.6MW turbines since 2010 when the company began working in offshore wind.

For this recent project, Seajacks Installation Services have provided a comprehensive package of lifting services for the duration of Meerwind’s construction. Some of the services included onsite management for lifting operations, advice at the pre-engineering, engineering and execution stages and supplying risk assessments along with site audits. All of this means Seajacks are prioritising the safety of their crew throughout operations. Working on the Meerwind Offshore Wind Park has provided the Seajacks team and vessel crew with invaluable knowledge and experience for more technically challenging projects in the future.
