A record number of companies have entered this year’s EEEGR Innovation Awards, which celebrates new technology in the energy sector.

Representatives from eight shortlisted companies will present their innovations on stage at the Holiday Inn, Norwich, on September 17th. They include a low-energy device for monitoring the health of the sea, a new type of foundation for offshore wind turbines and a system for closing wellheads quickly in an emergency.

Simon Gray, chief executive of EEEGR , said: “Some brilliant new technology and solutions will be on show this year. The energy industry is always coming up with news ways to do things better or work more efficiently, and their innovations pay testimony to the incredible inventiveness of the men and women who work to supply us with our energy.

“The EEEGR Innovation Awards is now in its tenth year and over that time we’ve witnessed some truly inspirational thinking that has changed the way the industry generates and saves energy.

“We had a record 17 entries for this year’s competition and it was a difficult job choosing just eight ideas to go through to the final stage.”

The entrants will face a panel of five expert judges and votes will be cast by them and the audience.

The eight finalists are: The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), Aquaterra Energy, Fred. Olsen Universal Foundation, Marine Power Systems, Paul Clasper & Associates, Selex ES, James Fisher and Weatherford BDK.

Last year, Select Innovations, of Loddon, picked up the winner’s trophy for a pioneering range of energy saving lighting products.
