RenewableUK has today welcomed the news that the Coastal Communities Fund has been extended for a further year.

The UK’s offshore wind and marine energy industries contribute to the fund which was established by the Government to help coastal communities to create jobs and support local projects. Established in 2012 the fund has now been extended to 2014-15 and will allow coastal communities to bid for investment totalling £29 million.

Last year the CCF provided £23.7 million to create training and employment opportunities, such as an apprenticeship scheme to encourage shellfish farming in Cornwall, and the establishment of Europe’s first National Coastal Tourism Academy in Bournemouth.

RenewableUK Director of Offshore Renewables Nick Medic said: “This is yet another tangible example of the positive economic impact that offshore wind and marine energy is having in communities up and down the country. By contributing to the Coastal Communities Fund, offshore wind and marine energy developers are doing their bit to ensure that the UK feels the benefit of being at the cutting edge of these new and exciting technologies.”
