Germany: Amrumbank West OWF to Be Constructed via Cuxhaven

From mid-October 2013, E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH will start the construction of the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm via the offshore base port of Cuxhaven.

The wind farm, located northwest of Helgoland, will comprise 80 Siemens’ 3.6 megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbines and will have a capacity of 288 MW.

The main components of the foundation structure for this project will be delivered at the Offshore Terminal 1 in Cuxhaven, from where they will be loaded on and shipped by an installation vessel. Terminal operator Rhenus Cuxport, based in Cuxhaven, has been awarded the transshipment contract for this project.

The contract also includes handling of inter array cables, which will be stored temporarily and reloaded via the Cuxport terminal. The offshore section of the contract involves handling of the foundation structures, which will be carried out on the quays of the Offshore Terminal 1.

A corresponding license agreement was signed between E.ON and the owner of this public facility, the Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG. The Offshore Terminal 1 is intended for the transshipping of jack-up vessels and for the storage of heavy equipment.

Cuxhaven offers modern port facilities that meet the diverse needs of the maritime industry to a great extent. Especially in the growing offshore wind energy, huge investments have been made to develop Cuxhaven and make it one of the leading base ports in Europe.
