Scientists at the University of Hull and the Holderness Fishing Industry Group are conducting a study on the environmental impact of offshore wind farms, reports BBC news portal.

Namely, scientists are surveying the Westermost Rough location, where Done Energy is planning to install 35 wind turbines.

They will also conduct a survey after the installation is complete.

A marine scientist at the University of Hull, Dr Ralph Bublitz, claims that the offshore wind farm development will have an impact on the environment on the seabed “and the main question is how long is it going to take to recover.”

Offshore construction of the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm will begin in the first half of 2014 and the farm is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2015.

Once operational, it is estimated that the wind farm will be able to provide 240-245MW of electricity, which is enough to fulfill the requirements of approximately 150,000 British households.
