Tuesday last week, 200 Norwegian and international experts on renewable energy, business development, investment and government governance met at INTPOW Renewable Energy Forum to discuss the global energy revolution and its implications for business and Norway.
Consensus opinion was that demand is soaring in new developing regions and climate change considerations boost demand for renewable power solutions both in the developed and developing regions of the world. Markets are changing fast and utilities are struggling with old business models. Implications are immense for the global power industry and change strategies are sought. Dr Yumkella at the UN SE4ALL put it on the shoulders of the Norwegian participants as he said: “Why am I here in Norway? I need the guys with the solutions!”
A long list of international high level speakers that also featured Mr Graham Pugh representing the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and Ms Christine Lins from the REN21 network as well as Mr Michael Waldron of the IEA sought to find answers to the questions; where are the business opportunities? What are the risks? How can Norwegian companies change and prosper in the wake of the energy revolution?
A long day of conferencing and networking was brought to an end with a heated political debate about the industrial renewable energy strategy (or lack of it) and how Norway need to act in the wake of the global energy revolution.
