A UK-based company is hoping to deploy its wave energy device called ”the Lifesaver“ off the Cornwall coast, writes BBC.
The device would be connected to the grid via Wave Hub, which is a grid-connected offshore facility in South West England for large scale testing of technologies that generate electricity from the power of the waves.
“We are hoping to be at Wave Hub for late next year or early-2015.
“Wave Hub is exactly what we as developers need on our way to commercial operations,” said Fred Olsen’s project manager Tore Gulli.
BOLT Lifesaver captures the energy of nearshore waves and converts it into clean, sustainable electricity. This device has been successfully installed in March 2012 at the pre-consented marine device test site, FaBTest, Falmouth UK. From here, the device will be moved to WaveHub site.
