Newcastle based Maersk Training has appointed its first female instructor to work within its thriving wind energy division – a move that it says will help dismiss many preconceptions about this being a male dominated industry sector.
Lynn Lowes from Washington, Tyne and Wear joins the company, which offers state-of the-art training facilities and a range of courses for the maritime, offshore oil and gas and offshore wind sectors, from Life Aid Training, in Middlesbrough.
Lowes has worked within first aid and training for the past 14 years and recently added a diploma in teaching to her skill set. She will form part of a nine-strong team within Maersk’s Wind industry training division. As well as teaching the First Aid and Manual Handling courses, Lynn will be the lead instructor for the Level 2 Diploma, Staying Safe in the Wind Turbine Environment (Onshore and Offshore).
Commenting on her new position Lynn said:
“This sector has been dominated by men for as long as I can remember and there is no real reason for it. It is a fast growing industry, which is having a positive impact on the economy and as such the need for skilled professionals to work within it will continue to grow – I just hope my success will encourage more women to jump on board.”
