Massachusetts and New Bedford officials have announced establishment of a new committee for South Terminal project and offshore wind industry, reports South Coast Today.
The new committee will track job growth for these projects.
Bill White, director of offshore wind sector development at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center said: “We want to review the project not just in terms of meeting the employment goals for the project but also to create jobs in New Bedford and on the South Coast and in Massachusetts beyond it.”
Earlier this year, officials were planning to create two committees, one to track employment rates for South Terminal project and the other to create training programs for green jobs that could ensue.
These two committees were joined into Terminal Access Opportunity and Workforce Development Committee.
At the moment, 10 New Bedford residents and 15 residents of other South Coast towns are engaged in the development of South Terminal. White said that the committee will be doing everything in its power to increase their numbers.
After the completion of South Terminal every wind energy project is expected to create around 500 jobs over two-year period, said White.
He continued by saying: “We chose this city (for South Terminal) not only because it has the best attributes but because we realized how greatly New Bedford could benefit from it.”
